The Information Centre
IMPORTANT NEWS
The CCA has made the very difficult decision to close the Community and Visitor Centre.
BUT – the CCA is not going away.
The decision to close the Centre means that the CCA can use its resources to do more – more events, more activities, more programmes.
We will continue to have use of the Centre until early 2026 and activities that have been planned such as the Magical Christmas will continue
Unfortunately, given the rising costs of running the Centre and the declining number of visitors it is no longer viable to keep it open after March 2026.
This decision was not taken lightly. The Centre has been at the heart of the village since 2011. But over the last few years we have seen:
– Footfall drop by almost 300%
– Costs increasing by over 60% and rising
Almost all the functions that were provided by the Centre are now available online. With smart phones almost universally available, the way people find information has changed.
As a charity, we must be mindful of what we use our funds for. Too much of our income – mostly from generous donations – is now spent on maintaining an underused Centre rather than serving the community. We would rather use these funds to organise services that benefit Castlerock – like the Christmas and Easter events – than on utility bills and rent.
We already know that 2026 will be an exciting year with the return of Castlerock’s historic railway bridge – something that the CCA has worked tirelessly to make happen. We will make sure to have an unforgettable celebration in spring 2026!
We would especially like to thank our loyal and committed volunteers who have contributed so much to the Visitor and Information Centre over the years.
