Memories of Castlerock in the 50`s and 60`s

On Thursday 28 th June, the successful monthly talks programme continued in the Community Centre when Chairman Jackie Hutchinson introduced guest speaker, Mervyn Guthrie.
Mervyn is a renowned wildlife photographer but, on this occasion, for his talk  `Memories of Castlerock in the 50`s and 60`s` he had put together an impressive and wide-ranging collection of images to present an evocative picture of what it was like to grow up in the village at that time.
The slideshow and Mervyn`s accompanying comments brought back wonderful memories for many and elicited some lively discussion during tea and coffee afterwards. Among the audience was a newly arrived visitor from New York, John Gilfillan. John, who had the privilege of staying in the Golf Hotel on his last visit some fourteen years ago, is a descended from two local families, the Nimock`s and Morrell`s from Dunboe.
His great grandfather, John Nimock was a photographer who in the late 1800`s lived in Guysmere.
