Castlerock beach stretches from the river Bann to the cliffs of Downhill.
A recent refurbishment of the beach promenade has created 4 boardwalks that provide access to the beach from the promenade. By walking to the far end of the beach from the parking facilities you can reach the pier at the mouth of the river Bann (known as the Barmouth).
Parking is permitted on the beach although only on the eastern section of the beach (to the right as you drive in). Drivers should take care of soft sand so that their vehicles don’t become trapped.
Dogs are allowed on the eastern portion of the beach (to the right as you drive in) all year round. Dog restrictions are enforced on the western portion of the beach ( to the left as you drive in) between the 1st of May – 31st September. Dog walkers should read signs at the entrance for more information.
